John William “Bill” Poole, Jr.

August 8, 1936 — July 14, 2025

John William “Bill” Poole, Jr., age 88 of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 14, 2025.  He was the devoted husband of Ruth Ann Poole and they shared 61 wonderful years together before her passing in August of 2023.  He loved her dearly and deeply missed her.

Born on August 8, 1936, Bill was the only child born to the late Margaret “Peggy” and John William Poole, Sr.  He started his career working with his dad farming, truck driving, operating a sawmill, and building truck bodies and then working for Harford County as a Building Inspector.  He loved his community, which was evident in his 70 years of active service and lifetime membership with the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company.  He was also a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and an active member of William Watters Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to his fire company and church family, Bill is survived by his son, John “Jack” William Poole, III and wife Laura, and daughter Linda Ann Wunner and husband John; grandchildren, Andrew “Drew” William Poole and wife Heather, Brian William Wunner, Stephanie Poole Rosebaugh and husband Jeff, and Brenda Lynn Wunner; great-grandchildren Hunter Elizabeth Schlicht-Wunner, Jack Andrew Poole, Mia Grace Poole, and Raegan Nicole Poole; sister-in-law, Gail Thomas and husband David; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM at the William Watters United Methodist Church, located at 1452 W. Jarrettsville Road, Jarrettsville, Maryland, 21084 A fire department memorial service will be held during the evening visitation beginning at 7:30 PM.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11 AM at the William Waters United Methodist Church. Additional information will be forthcoming regarding the taking of apparatus and times.
